I am a 55 year old amateur advanced woodworker. I design and build furniture, build faux timber fireplace mantles & surrounds, build jigs, cutting boards, and turn bowls/pens/kitchen items and more. I have built my tool arsenal to include an Grizzly 8" 3HP helical head jointer, a Harvey 14" 3HP bandsaw, a 3HP 52" Harvey tablesaw, and more. I work wood almost every weekend and also happen to have asthma. I did a lot of research on positive air pressure PAPR units before I settled on the Peke Powercap Active IP PAPR Bundle and I'm glad that I did. I can wear it for hours at a time without noticing. The filtered air washes down over my face which keeps me cool, my glasses don't fog, and I feel very comfortable and protected when I'm sanding, planing, jointing, cutting, turning on the lathe or finishing with my sprayer. The cap is lightweight but is totally contained in the headgear. There is no remote air unit to strap to your waist or a hose to contend with. I've been able to use hearing protection ear muffs with the cap on with no problems. I don't have to struggle with N95 masks that sop with sweat, trap heat, and don't really filter everything that this unit does. I am also very happy that the battery is Lithium Ion. I have run it for 7 hours at a time with no loss of airflow or pressure. I have not yet run the battery empty, so I can't tell you exactly how long it lasts, but if you want to run more than the 7 hour interval I've gotten (so far), then invest in a second battery. The second battery can be charged outside the helmet unit, so you can charge one while wearing the other.

The filtration on this PAPR does not have the same European exposure certification as 3M units or the Trend Airshield Pro, but it still filters to .3 microns (Trend is .6 microns) and the advantages are that it is lightweight (more than 1/2 the weight of the Trend), self-contained (no waist belt or back-strapped air unit with hoses), and uses a Lithium Ion battery pack that is far more reliable than the nickel metal hydride (NiMH). Those advantages far outweigh the Euro cert and slightly lower cost of the Trend and is a fraction of the cost of the 3M Versaflow.

The only downside to the Powercap is that you won't be cruising the town looking to pick up any women while you're wearing it. That will matter to a 20 something young man, but I'm 55 and have been married for over 30 years! I don't care that I look like Hellboy in the Powercap... I can breathe!

Lastly, it took about 3 weeks to get the unit from Peke. I would normally be a bit irritated, but the person that handles the freight was out sick a few days and sent me an email when she was back telling me that she was backed up because she had been sick, but would get the unit shipped ASAP. I love that. Not everything goes according to plan, but the communication letting me know what happened and how it would be corrected was perfect. If you need it overnight, I don't think it will happen. If you research, plan, and have reasonable expectations, I believe that you will be fully satisfied. I was attracted by the light weight and mobility. The Powercap Active is comfortable to wear. There is a noise from the fan unit, but since I wear hearing protection for shop noise anyway it is not a bother.

What a game changer! Very happy with the fit and performance.

I work with fiberglass and I've always struggled to find PPE that actually works. The power cap is light, self-contained, no hoses, very comfortable, and keeps dust out my eyes and lungs! It's worth money! Full disclosure I had a minor issue with the face seal, but customer service is incredibly helpful. IMO everyone expects everything they buy to be perfect but manufacturing issues happen. It says a lot how a company handles issues. 5 stars to the product! 6 stars to customer service!

Love my Powercap. Fits great, is lightweight and supplies me with cool clean air while making copious amounts of dust.
